John du Toit Motors opened their doors on 2 February 1987 trading in mostly new Nissan vehicles and Massey Ferguson tractors.
During December 1987 the Massey Ferguson franchise was relinquish due to the severe drought that plagued the Western Transvaal during that period. Sales of new Nissan vehicles however showed a steady growth and so did our market share. Space in our leased premises became a problem and we were obliged to move to larger leased premises in the center of town. In March 1990 John du Toit became the sole proprietor. In 1991 we acquired the Uno
Franchise and at our local launch all the stock were sold out and Uno sold well in our area of responsibility with the result that we became Fiat Dealer of the Year (small) in 2003.
Although sales of new Nissan’s and Uno’s were above our expectations ,the need arose for us to have a decent used vehicle showroom. Most of our trade-ins we sold to the trade. In order to take the business to the next level, it was decided to enter into the used vehicle market . In order to achieve this, more suitable accommodation had to be acquired. In 1992, premises that used to house the Mazda Franchise became available and we bought it. As the building, which was relatively new, was run down we immediately started with renovations. Knocked down an old building on the stand and built a used vehicle lot.
We are still in the same premises, which are owned by John du Toit. During the 1990’s we were frequently nominated as best dealer for sales, parts and workshop which culminated in being selected National Dealer of the Year for both Nissan and Uno in 1996. Although we were again nominated for both franchises in 1997 we were only selected National Uno Dealer of the Year. Many other achievements for Sales and After Sales were awarded to us over the Years. The business continued to excel under the leadership of Marius to the extent that this dealership has now been selected Nissan Dealer of the Year, Service Dealer and NSSA Dealer (small) for 2004.
